It has been overrun by moral relativism and a complete disregard for human life. Abortion is rampant (44 million children have been murdered since Roe V. Wade was fought) and the lack of respect for life is seen in countries such as China, North Korea, and the Middle East. Freedom is being pulled from the hands of human beings. In China, Catholics are forced to go underground and worship if they will not bow down to the state run Catholic Church (which is NOT sanctioned by Rome). In North Korea, people are starving while their malevolent dictator dines on three course meals and fine wine. And in this country, oh there is so much to detest. First off, my party (Republican) is making a complete ass out of itself. I favored a military mission to bring down Saddam and to fight against terrorism. But it has been handled so poorly that we are in this for the long haul. And yes it is becoming another Vietnam. However, I don't blame Bush himself. I blame his cabinet and congress. In fact, I like Bush. He may be a tad off his game but he comes across as genuine and someone who at least has common sense. As for the Dems, well they are going to lead our country down the shitter. First off, moral laxity is the name of the game for Dems. Their motto runs along the lines of "So Open-Minded Our Brains Fell Out". And God help us if they take over the White House. I am perfectly okay with the government tapping our phones and checking on us. It prevents terror (or at least helps). If you have nothing to hide, then why worry? Plus, come any Christian holiday they will probably try to ban them to make room for the Holy Day of Jihad for the Muslim community. Let us not offend the Muslims. The only reason the government is okay with giving Muslims special rights is because they are afraid of Ka-Boom!

Venting is fun...

all the best,
Dehn

Sooo Tired

I just got done working 24 hours in less than a 48 hour time period. First of all, I got a new job as an EMT at Mutual Aid Ambulance Service in Greensburg, Pa. I worked 50 hours the past week and next weekend I have a ten hour and a sixteen hour shift. But I get paid well and they give me time off to play soccer. Speaking of soccer, we're ranked first in the league and will be playing for the championship next weekend. Wish us luck!

I am dating a new girl and it is working out well. She is very sweet and funny, and is nice to have around. She lives a little far away but not too bad. More details will come!

School is okay and I am taking one class over the summer. It's not the battles that define who you are, it's how you handle the defeats that define you. The nice thing about being defeated is that you can look back and see exactly how and why you were beaten. That ability allows you to move forward knowing the weaknesses of the enemy.

Sometimes though, what you thought was a defeat was actually a victory or an opportunity in disguise...

ciao,
Dehn

Why Medicine

When you tell someone that you are pre-med and plan on applying to medical school, it seems like they automatically bump you up on the social and intellectual ladder. They ask you about their current health problems, what type of physician you want to be, and where you want to attend medical school. They think you are one of the most intelligent people they know. I beg to differ...

To want to become a physician is utterly moronic in my opinion. First, you spend 4-5 years in undergrad, studying and working your ass off just so you can get the good grades just to be looked at by a medical school. Then you study for three months to take a $200 test that last 5 hours and can make or break your chances of getting accepted into a medical school. Then, after you spend over a grand easily in application fees and then having to travel to interviews you spend at least another grand. Should you be lucky enough to be accepted, you pay $30k a year or so for 4 years to attend medical school where you will have almost no life and no outside interests. Then comes the residency where there is a good chance you will work for 80 hrs a week, most of the time disimpacting some old gomer's pooperchute while functioning on 2 hours of sleep. And while you may technically be a doctor, you're only making $50k with $200k in loans to pay back. Maybe by the time you're 40 things will start to look a little brighter.

So are those who want to become physicians all that intelligent? They are only if they're becoming doctors for the right reasons, not money or ego. From personal experience, I know that there have been certain things that I have given up so that I can pursue this life. I don't regret any of it though. Here are the lyrics, enjoy!

Any minute now, my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
I'll stand on the bow, feel the waves come crashing
Come crashing down down down, on me

And you say, be still my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in
But don't you understand
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened
But in my dreams, I slew the dragon
And down this beaten path, and up this cobbled lane
I'm walking in my old footsteps, once again
And you say, just be here now
Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin
Let me throw one more dice
I know that I can win
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

Any minute now, my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
And I'll check my machine, there's sure to be that call
It's gonna happen soon, soon, soon
It's just that times are lean

And you say, be still my love
Open up your heart, let the light shine in
Don't you understand
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

January: Pro-Life Month

So this month happens to be Pro-Life month. As a staunch supporter of all things Pro-Life, I have decided to provide some links to organizations that promote these ideals. I've had one interview and I am waiting to hear back from them, which should happen any day now.

I'm taking 18 credits at UPG, including two 3-hour labs a week. It is pretty rough but so long as I get into medical school I will be happy. UPG itself is pretty nice, very small and very few people, but overall i'm really pleased. Plus, the academics are really good.

I miss my friends at SRU and will be heading back up there February 9, depending on weather and such.

I will probably be posting once every other day or so, it all depends. Also, I plan on doing a song or artist of the week post beginning this coming Sunday.

peace,
Dehn

Back Up and Running

So the blog has been down for a few months.
